Removals and Storage Manchester: Moving Day, Sorted — and Somewhere Safe for Everything Between

Most moves in Manchester have a gap. The new keys don’t land until Friday, but the flat has to be emptied by Wednesday. The renovation runs two weeks over, but the furniture can’t wait outside. The landlord needs the place back this month, and the new place isn’t ready yet.

That’s where a removals-and-storage combination earns its keep. Instead of a removal crew and a storage yard working as two strangers, you get one plan: your belongings collected, transported, and held in secure containers until you’re ready for them. At our Salford yard, we’ve built exactly that kind of service around Manchester’s real moving patterns — and through our partnership with JCT 20 Removals, a trusted Middleton removals company, the moving and the storing join up properly.

How removals plus storage actually works

The idea is simple, but the order matters. A typical combined move looks like this:

1. You tell us the dates. Not just the moving day — the awkward dates around it. When do the keys change hands? When does the renovation start and end? When can you first get into the new place? Storage works best when it’s planned around the gaps, not bolted on as an afterthought.

2. The removal team collects and delivers. Our partners at JCT 20 Removals — you’ll find them on our Our Trusted Partners page — handle the lifting, the van, and the careful loading. They know our yard, so furniture arrives in a condition that’s ready to store, not stacked haphazardly.

3. We receive it into your container. Your belongings go straight into your own steel storage container at our yard at 21 Cheltenham Street, Salford M6 6WY. Nothing sits on a loading bay, nothing gets double-handled by people you don’t know.

4. You collect it when the gap closes. When the new place is ready or the renovation finishes, your things move straight back out. Because we planned for the gap, there’s no scramble and no second round of packing.

Why Manchester moves need the combo

Manchester’s housing market keeps people in motion — students shifting between terms, families upsizing out of Salford and Eccles, landlords turning flats around between tenancies. And almost every one of those moves has a seam in the middle:

  • Chain delays. The most common one. If you’re caught between exchange and completion or between two tenancies, our guide to storing between moves explains how to plan the gap — and our short-term storage options are built for exactly that kind of temporary hold.
  • Renovations running long. Builders’ dust and new plaster don’t mix with sofas. Moving the furniture out into a container while the work finishes is cheaper than replacing it.
  • Landlords and estate agents. End-of-tenancy turnarounds often leave a few weeks of overlap. A container holds the departing tenant’s leftovers or the incoming furnishings without cluttering the property.
  • Downsizing and probate. Sorting a family home takes weeks of decisions. Storage buys you time to think instead of rushing into skips.

Whatever your situation, the principle is the same: storage is the pause button between two addresses, and pairing it with the removal itself means one phone call instead of two.

Our partnership with JCT 20 Removals

We’ve worked with JCT 20 Removals since before it was official. They’re a Middleton-based removals company — the kind of crew that wraps a mattress properly and shows up when they say they will. Since October 2026, we’ve been mutual partners: we’re listed as a Founding Partner on their site, and they’re listed on our Partners page, because when our customers need a removal crew we can actually vouch for, it’s JCT 20 we recommend.

What this means for you is practical, not decorative. When you book a move-and-store package, the removal team and the storage yard are already coordinated. The crew knows the container sizes, knows the yard layout at Cheltenham Street, and loads in a way that makes the best use of the space. Fewer surprises on moving day, and your belongings spend less time in transit and handling.

You can still bring your own removal company — the containers are yours to fill however you like. But if you’d rather have it all arranged in one go, ask us when you call and we’ll coordinate with JCT 20 for you.

10ft and 20ft containers — what fits your move

10ft container — from £25/week. Ideal for a one-bedroom flat or the contents of a couple of rooms: a sofa, a bed, white goods, and 30–40 boxes. It’s the workhorse for student moves, small flat turnarounds, and storing the furniture from one or two rooms during a renovation.

20ft container — from £40/week. The full-house option. A typical two- or three-bedroom home — furniture, appliances, boxes, bikes, and the garden shed — fits a 20ft container with sensible stacking. If you’re moving a whole household between two dates, start here.

Not sure which you need? Tell us what’s being stored on the call and we’ll size it honestly. We’d rather put you in the right container first time than have you shuffle everything later. Our cost guide breaks down what each size buys you in more detail.

How your belongings are protected

Our yard is monitored by 24/7 CCTV, and each container is a solid steel unit. The yard sits at 21 Cheltenham Street in Salford.

We’re open 7 days a week, 9am–9pm, and we keep things simple: one price, your own lockable container, and a team that answers the phone.

What to do before removal day

A little preparation makes the combo work far better:

  • Label everything by room. It costs nothing and saves hours at the far end. Boxes marked “bedroom 2” go back to bedroom 2 without a second thought.
  • Photograph the furniture. A quick phone photo of each major item before it leaves is your insurance record, and it helps you spot any transit marks honestly.
  • Keep one essentials bag out. Documents, keys, chargers, medication, a change of clothes — the things you’ll need in the gap before your belongings come back out.
  • Tell us about the awkward items. Pianos, American fridge-freezers, flat-pack furniture that won’t survive a second assembly — flag anything unusual so the crew brings the right kit.
  • Book the gap, not just the day. If there’s any chance the new place won’t be ready, arrange the storage now. Moving things twice is always more expensive than storing them once.
